There aren't a lot of great books on "How To Do Advertising." The best thing to do is look at lots of work and see what makes you smile, think and/or feel something. It might be an ad or anything really. The best place to see ads are in awards books or on-line. You might not like everything, but it may inspire you, give you an idea of what the industry currently values or which agency is calling your name.

The One Show Annuals Here's where you can buy The One Club's annuals of their award shows. These are books and DVDs of the work that were considered the best of the year. You can buy current or past issues. This organization is one of the most respected ad orgs in the world. (If you are a member of The One Club, these annuals are less expensive.)

Art Directors Club Annuals Lots of great work here. With this club there is obviously a strong art direction focus, but great advertising is great advertising.

Communication Arts Advertising Annuals These have lots of great work from all over. This is not an award show, but is, in part, selected by a panel of industry experts. (Note: Make sure you are buying the ad annuals, not illustration or design-unless that's what you want.)

D&AD Annuals The awards annual from the very excellent British Design and Art Directors show.

Archive Magazine This is not an award show, yet they feature lots of great work. (Note: Make sure you are buying the ad annuals, not illustration or design-unless that's what you want.)
