Improvisation theater is a great way to get better at listening and to unshackle your mind to free-associate or whatever it does when it's stimulated. Improv can get you out of your head and let you start playing around and just having fun. (Because that's what it's all about anyway, isn't it?) Also, so many of the philosophies of improv hold very true to advertising (and to communication in general.) There's a lot to learn here. These aren't just classes for actors or comedians, all sorts of people take these. A lot of great non-ad writers are a part of this scene as well.
